GrantLOVE Presents: The SlowDown

Slow Dance by Loren Long

Welcome to another edition of GrantLOVE Presents. The SlowDown came about on a whim. I was checking a few old computer folders and stumbled on these songs, some of which I haven’t heard in decades, and decided to put together a Podcast. Starting off with a tribute to the one and only Stevie Wonder, Rocket Love by Black Coffey from the album Conception. I followed that with the Grand Puba produced Love, Need & Want by Chante Savage. You’ll find some older faves like Rene & Angela’s My First Love, and the incomparable Johnny Guitar Watson putting his mack down on Lovin You. The Force MD’s, Entouch, Taana Gardner, and The Ohio Players’ Pride & Vanity makes this SlowDown Mix an instant classic. Where else will you find all these songs on one mix? HERE, that’s where. I hope you enjoy the flashback.

Peace & Blessings

GrantLOVE Presents: All This LOVE, A Sample Session

21 02 2008

gl-presents-all-this-love-pic.jpg

Anyone who knows me, and those who are familiar with me through my podcasts, know how much I love Soul Music. I know, I know that I’ve preached in the past about how “All music is Soul music…” so let me get specific. I LOVE Old School SOUL music, the kind of SOUL music that sticks to your bones in the Winter, yet can cool you off in the Summer. The Kind of SOUL that captures your attention from the very first chord, or from the first lyrics that are spoken. Northern, Southern, East, West; it really doesn’t matter.

My other love is Hip Hop. I grew up during its inception and watched and nurtured it along the way. Because of it’s growth, and constant mood swings I began losing touch. The Happy Hip Hop I grew to LOVE became angry and hateful, derogatory and downright rude. Well Hip Hop and I have reconnected again and I’m happy to say that all is forgiven. I understand you were just expressing your angst, and going through your PIMP Thang! Now let’s get back to some positive messages for our children. You are a Grown Ass man Hip Hop, Let’s start acting like it.

I look forward to a future where I can listen to the radio and hear Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes followed by Eric B. & Rakim. I look forward to game shows where an Old School Soul song can be played and you have to identify all the samples used and by whom. See how many you come up with.
