Come On, 11 Year Olds Commiting Robbery

11 08 2008

My hometown newspaper, The Orlando Sentinel, had an article this morning that blew my mind. I really don’t know why I was so surprised. A few years ago as a member of the Orange County Employee Academy, my class visited the Juvenile Detention Center, as well as the City Jail. Needless to say, it wasn’t one of our more pleasant outings. We had the opportunity to speak to some juvenile offenders and ask questions. Most of the questions ranged from. “How was your home life?” “Did you grow up with a father?” “What got you involved in crime?” etc. Most didn’t have a strong male presence, in fact, most of the kids (and I use that term lightly) grew up in a culture that celebrates bad behavior. One 16 year old boy told us something that pretty much summed up the society so many children live in. “I wasn’t trying to be the only kid on my block not hustlin’, that would make me a punk, so I HAD to hustle.” Wow! Peer pressure from the 80’s when I was a teen is nothing compared to the pressure kids are facing today.

11-year-old uses BB guns to rob drugstore at a 24-hour Walgreens.

The Orlando Sentinel (Orlando, FL)

Preliminary reports showed the teen used fake guns during the robbery.

Investigators said the boy, whose name is not being released because of his age, rode his bicycle to the pharmacy at 920 S. Kirkman Road, near Raleigh Street, around 2:30 a.m. Police said he demanded money from the clerks and then left the store. Officers arrested the boy outside the drugstore.

Crime scene technicians recovered the guns, as well as his bicycle and backpack from the parking lot.

Police did not release the charges filed against the juvenile, who was taken to the juvenile detention center.

Personally, I’m more discgusted with the fact that this CHILD was out roaming the non Mickey Mouse laced streets of Orlando, a town known by it citizens as NOT the Happiest Place on Earth. Where were the parents, or even parent? There is no reason for a child to be outside of their home at that hour, not even with an adult should they be outside. They should be home counting sheep.

Jesse Jackson stated recently he wanted to cut Barack Obama’s nuts off for talking down to black people. Obama was speaking of course about our responsibility as parents and role models. Telling us to turn off the TV and read to our kids, teach our kids from an early age what’s right and what’s wrong. Jesse thought Obama’s speech was talking down to us and not speaking on the positives of Black People. Jesse is from the Civil Rights era, where things were quite different, I think he’s a little out of touch with reality, as where Obama knows it’s time to stop blaming the man, or blaming society for out ills, and start taking responsibility for our actions, for our future.

It’s a very scary time in most urban cities across America. There are more and more Juvenile crimes taking place everyday, and the parents have seemingly given up. That in itself is the worst crime of all.

Jacksonville man dials 911 due to no sauce on food

Jacksonville police say Reginald Peterson needs to learn that 911 is not the appropriate place to complain that Subway left the sauce off a spicy Italian sandwich.

Police say the 42-year-old man dialed 911 twice last week so he could have his sub made correctly. The second call was to complain that officers weren’t arriving fast enough.

Subway workers told police Peterson became belligerent and yelled when they were fixing his order. They locked him out of the store after he left to call police.

When officers arrived, they tried to calm Peterson and explain the proper use of 911. Those efforts failed, and he was arrested on a charge of making false 911 calls.

Peterson did not have a listed phone number.

New Paparazzi Law In L.A.?

31 07 2008

I went home for lunch today as per my usual routine. After my usual catnap, lunch and meds, I started watching Fox News channel and couldn’t stop laughing. I know you’re probably saying, “Fox news, what’s so funny about that?” Well I’ll tell you. The City Council of Los Angeles is set to propose a new law limiting the activities of paparazzi around celebrities. One of the proposals is to create a “personal safety zone” around celebrities. A safety sphere so to speak. Needless to say, I was amused at all the fuss the “Stalkarazzi” has created. Check out the feature I saw at lunch on Fox News. I have to admit, points were well made by E.L. Woody, the so-called King of the Paparazzi.

NYPD Officer Shoves Cyclist….

30 07 2008

…And of course, the P.B.A once again, stand by their man, no matter how obvious the officer’s actions were.

On Friday, July 25th, Critical Mass staged another protest. Critical Mass is an organization that stages mass bike rides through major cities to celebrate biking and to assert the cyclists’ right to the road. Take a look at this video.

I say the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association needs to be taken to task. This type of meaningless aggression by the NYPD is why citizens lack trust, and compassion for them. I understand that being a Police Officer is stressful. I wish I could “take down” some people I work with. If I did that I would immediately be fired. For the N.Y.P.D, L.A.P.D, and most Police forces across the Country, it seems as though this type of behavior is acceptable. Although this is considered to be minor, as compared to the 41 shots that killed Amadou Diallo, or the 50 shots that killed Sean Bell, or the outrageous incident in which Abner Louima was sodomized and tortured with a plunger by Officer Justin Volpe. Out of these cases, only Justin Volpe was sentenced to do time.

Take a look at the official press release by the P.B.A, explaining THEIR take on what actually happened. I think the video does a better job.

Even if the cyclist was riding erratically, the cop could have “summoned” him to pull over, as I’ve seen other officers do in the past. What this officer did was unquestionably flagrant and uncalled for, no matter what Patrick Lynch thinks. This cop is a rookie. If rookies can get away with these types of actions, imagine what the grumpy old vets are thinking….Open Season?

Keith Olbermann on John McCain’s “Approved Message”

29 07 2008

John McCain is officially considered old, and the people running his campaign has to be thinking, “Where do I get off this sinking ship?” His campaign just released a new video bashing Obama once again, and once again the “fact checkers” failed to check the facts.

The most ironic part of this video is the fact that McCain claims that Obama  didn’t have time to visit injured troops and instead went to the gym, where it shows Obama playing basketball (Racist Overtones?) When you examine the video closely, Obama IS playing basketball, WITH THE TROOPS! McCain also tries to imply that the only reason Obama cancelled his trip to visit the sick troops was because there would be no media present. That also was false. The video of him Ballin’ with the troops was taken by a hand held cam, not the news media. McCain and his campaign staffers will try to portray Obama as not supporting the troops, however, Obama has a better record in Senate Voting in support for veterans. Just because McCain is a Veteran and War hero, doesn’t automatically make him a better supporter of the troops.

John McCain is proving to all of us that his way of thinking is certainly not what America needs right now. The Bush administrations fear tactics are not working as well as it did shortly after 9/11. Americans are too smart and saavy to think we need McCain as President to be safe. The Republicans will tell you that we are safer now because of Bush’s “War on Terror.” They will tell you that a vote for Obama is a vote for terrorism, they will tell you that we need to invade Iran because they have nukes and have an unstable president, they will tell you that since Obama opposed the surge in Iraq that he has bad judgement, but what they won’t tell you is that he opposed the Iraq war from the beginning.

Check out a piece that aired last night on MSNBC’s Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann.
