Did You Vote?

4 11 2008

"Can't Phase Me Son"

This Election Year has set records for turnout in just about every State. History could indeed be in the making as Barack Obama hoped, and has spoken about for the past two years. I’m personally amazed at how so many younger voters, many voting in their very first election, have become so engaged in the political process.

I hear co-workers, many younger than my quadragenerian self, talk about the Electoral College, they talk about the economy, and healthcare, some talk about family values, and others even speak about abortion rights.

A co-worker came to me and asked, “Who’d you Vote for? Obama right?!” I had to take a step back and explain that such conclusions could be considered racist, or simply foolish. I also explained to him that race should not matter. “I’ve been voting since 1988. My first presidential election, I voted for Michael Dukakis, even with Lenore Fulani (who is a Black Woman) on the Independent ticket.” I’ve been voting Democratic ever since, as far as the Presidential Elections go. When it comes to Senate and House seats, I vote Independently, focusing on the issues at hand and coming to a determination that one candidate will be an honorable representative for my State. There are minorities who vote Republican who are not elitists, but don’t believe in abortion, or believe in the ideology of the Republican Party. That doesn’t “revoke” their minority status, they are just simply voting for who they believe is best for them and their family. The politically correct question should have been, “Did you vote? Great!”

I’ve also been hearing so much celebrating, as if the outcome is inevitable. For those of you to young to remember this, take a look below.

Not So Fast My Friend

Not So Fast My Friend

[Truman was seen as an underdog going into the 1948 election--so much so that the Chicago Tribune printed newspapers with the headline "Dewey Defeats Truman." A picture of the victorious Truman holding the newspaper is one of the most famous photos in U.S. history] – History.com

Remember not to go out celebrating tonight until it’s all said and done. Even if Obama gets to 270, remember the recount of 2000 when Gore won Florida, then Lost Florida in a matter of hours, eventually losing the Presidency, even with winning the popular vote.

Using John McCain’s own words, “Nothing is inevitable.”  That’s the smartest thing he’s said the entire campaign.

More GOP Hypocrisy

Did He really Pick Her Because She's Ready To Lead?

Did He really Pick Her Because She

After watching the GOP Convention last night, I came away feeling all dirty. Listening to Rudy can make one feel that way. He of course is the biggest hypocrite of them all. I didn’t know much about Gov. Palin before last night. I really don’t know much about her today, since her words were nowhere to be found in her “groundbreaking’ speech. Of course it was written by the same speechwriters who penned most of George Bush’s speeches, once again, more of the same. It’s obvious to me, and many others, that McCain’s choice for VP is strictly about personality and not about the ability to lead. I find it interesting that McCain chose her after meeting her once. What was that about? Was McCain taken by her good looks, the fact that she’s a woman, or the fact that she has experience as Governor of Alaska, and Mayor of a small town. Could it be that he sees himself in her, a so-called Maverick who can bring about change? The Hypocrites of the GOP all came out in droves claiming how great a choice this is, staunchly defending her time as Mayor and Governor. To see exactly what I mean by this, check out comments from Karl Rove and others, as their slithery forked tongues talk in circles, contradicting themselves time and time again. And they say the Dems are flip-floppers..HA!

Come On, 11 Year Olds Commiting Robbery

11 08 2008

My hometown newspaper, The Orlando Sentinel, had an article this morning that blew my mind. I really don’t know why I was so surprised. A few years ago as a member of the Orange County Employee Academy, my class visited the Juvenile Detention Center, as well as the City Jail. Needless to say, it wasn’t one of our more pleasant outings. We had the opportunity to speak to some juvenile offenders and ask questions. Most of the questions ranged from. “How was your home life?” “Did you grow up with a father?” “What got you involved in crime?” etc. Most didn’t have a strong male presence, in fact, most of the kids (and I use that term lightly) grew up in a culture that celebrates bad behavior. One 16 year old boy told us something that pretty much summed up the society so many children live in. “I wasn’t trying to be the only kid on my block not hustlin’, that would make me a punk, so I HAD to hustle.” Wow! Peer pressure from the 80’s when I was a teen is nothing compared to the pressure kids are facing today.

Criminals Getting younger and younger

Criminals Getting younger and younger

11-year-old uses BB guns to rob drugstore at a 24-hour Walgreens.

The Orlando Sentinel (Orlando, FL)

Preliminary reports showed the teen used fake guns during the robbery.

Investigators said the boy, whose name is not being released because of his age, rode his bicycle to the pharmacy at 920 S. Kirkman Road, near Raleigh Street, around 2:30 a.m. Police said he demanded money from the clerks and then left the store. Officers arrested the boy outside the drugstore.

Crime scene technicians recovered the guns, as well as his bicycle and backpack from the parking lot.

Police did not release the charges filed against the juvenile, who was taken to the juvenile detention center.

Personally, I’m more discgusted with the fact that this CHILD was out roaming the non Mickey Mouse laced streets of Orlando, a town known by it citizens as NOT the Happiest Place on Earth. Where were the parents, or even parent? There is no reason for a child to be outside of their home at that hour, not even with an adult should they be outside. They should be home counting sheep.

Jesse Jackson stated recently he wanted to cut Barack Obama’s nuts off for talking down to black people. Obama was speaking of course about our responsibility as parents and role models. Telling us to turn off the TV and read to our kids, teach our kids from an early age what’s right and what’s wrong. Jesse thought Obama’s speech was talking down to us and not speaking on the positives of Black People. Jesse is from the Civil Rights era, where things were quite different, I think he’s a little out of touch with reality, as where Obama knows it’s time to stop blaming the man, or blaming society for out ills, and start taking responsibility for our actions, for our future.

It’s a very scary time in most urban cities across America. There are more and more Juvenile crimes taking place everyday, and the parents have seemingly given up. That in itself is the worst crime of all.

Voice of God Injured, Bernie Mac Hospitalized

5 08 2008

Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman was hospitalized in serious condition Monday after the car he was driving left a rural road in the Mississippi Delta and flipped several times.

Freeman, 71, was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., about 90 miles north of the accident in rural Tallahatchie County.

The actor “has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage, but is in good spirits,” according to a statement from Donna Lee, Freeman’s publicist. A hospital spokeswoman said Freeman was in serious condition but would not discuss his injuries.

“He is having a little bit of surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to help correct the damage,” Lee’s statement said. “He says he’ll be OK and is looking forward to a full recovery.”

Get Well Morgan Freeman…

Bernie Mac is in the hospital with Pnumonia, according to Bernie Mac’s publicist Danica Smith. The 50-year-old comedian is responding well to treatment and should be released soon. He remained hospitalized Saturday.

Smith says the pneumonia isn’t related to an inflammatory lung disease that Mac also has. That condition has been in remission since 2005.

Mac is a Chicago native who lives in the southern suburbs. He made waves last month with off-color jokes during a Chicago fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Get well Bernie..

One of my favorite Bernie Mac moments…………

Jacksonville man dials 911 due to no sauce on food

Jacksonville police say Reginald Peterson needs to learn that 911 is not the appropriate place to complain that Subway left the sauce off a spicy Italian sandwich.

Police say the 42-year-old man dialed 911 twice last week so he could have his sub made correctly. The second call was to complain that officers weren’t arriving fast enough.

Subway workers told police Peterson became belligerent and yelled when they were fixing his order. They locked him out of the store after he left to call police.

When officers arrived, they tried to calm Peterson and explain the proper use of 911. Those efforts failed, and he was arrested on a charge of making false 911 calls.

Peterson did not have a listed phone number.

Don’t Believe Everything You Read…

Jimmy Sabatino – Career Con-Man

Last week, The Los Angeles Times released documents, and quoted various unnamed sources in its so called bombshell article on the 1994 shooting assault of Tupac Shakur at Quad Studios in New York City. It appears the Los Angeles Times, and everyone who believed that garbage, were DUPED big time.

The Los Angeles Times appears to have been hoaxed by an imprisoned con man and accomplished document forger, an audacious swindler who has created a fantasy world in which he managed hip-hop luminaries, conducted business with Combs, Shakur, Busta Rhymes, and The Notorious B.I.G., and even served as Combs’s trusted emissary to Death Row Records boss Marion “Suge” Knight during the outset of hostilities in the bloody East Coast-West Coast rap feud.

On a personal note:

I worked for Gallagher Communications in the early to mid 90’s as a Junior Account Executive. One of our major clients was Sean Combs and Bad Boy Entertainment. No Jimmy Sabatino was ever mentioned in my dealings with Bad Boy, EVER. This kid would have been about 14 or 15 years old, so I knew from reading that Times article that something was fishy. I hope the Los Angeles Times, and the writer of the article, Chuck Phillips, apologizes to its readers, to Sean Combs and my man Jimmy Henchman for publishing such a reckless and dangerous article.
