Barack Obama On Hip Hop

28 09 2008

In a recent interview with MTV’s Sway Callway, Senator Barack Obama gave his thoughts on Hip-Hop.
“I’m a little older than hip-hop culture,” he said. “I was there at the beginning, but I was already getting older.”

The Presidential candidate went on to state how much he appreciates the forward thinking and entrepreneurial spirit of the Hip-Hop generation.

“What I’ve appreciated, watching this hip-hop generation, is to see how entrepreneurial they’ve been. In the past, musicians oftentimes were commodities. They were just shuffled around. Obviously, they did well, but they didn’t have the vision to say, ‘I’m going to build a business. I’m going to build my own studio. I’m going to create my own production operations.’ I think they’re a lot more sophisticated than in the past, and that is a wonderful thing.”

Reinventing Myself…1nce Again

21 07 2008

It’s been a minute. How’s my internet family doing? Well I’ve been busy outside the Matrix trying to make ends meet.

New Job + Less time to BS at work=less Podcasts. Don’t forget to bookmark me so we don’t get separated again.

This is my first podcast in Months, so please don’t be too critical. I wanted to put together something slick and simple, yet still have my signature of original samples, or Recycled Soul if you will.

I hope you enjoy my first Podcast since “Reinventing Myself”

Peace & Blessings

Don’t Believe Everything You Read…

26 03 2008

Jimmy Sabatino – Career Con-Man

Last week, The Los Angeles Times released documents, and quoted various unnamed sources in its so called bombshell article on the 1994 shooting assault of Tupac Shakur at Quad Studios in New York City. It appears the Los Angeles Times, and everyone who believed that garbage, were DUPED big time.

The Los Angeles Times appears to have been hoaxed by an imprisoned con man and accomplished document forger, an audacious swindler who has created a fantasy world in which he managed hip-hop luminaries, conducted business with Combs, Shakur, Busta Rhymes, and The Notorious B.I.G., and even served as Combs’s trusted emissary to Death Row Records boss Marion “Suge” Knight during the outset of hostilities in the bloody East Coast-West Coast rap feud.

On a personal note:

I worked for Gallagher Communications in the early to mid 90’s as a Junior Account Executive. One of our major clients was Sean Combs and Bad Boy Entertainment. No Jimmy Sabatino was ever mentioned in my dealings with Bad Boy, EVER. This kid would have been about 14 or 15 years old, so I knew from reading that Times article that something was fishy. I hope the Los Angeles Times, and the writer of the article, Chuck Phillips, apologizes to its readers, to Sean Combs and my man Jimmy Henchman for publishing such a reckless and dangerous article.

GrantLOVE Presents: The SlowDown

Slow Dance by Loren Long

Welcome to another edition of GrantLOVE Presents. The SlowDown came about on a whim. I was checking a few old computer folders and stumbled on these songs, some of which I haven’t heard in decades, and decided to put together a Podcast. Starting off with a tribute to the one and only Stevie Wonder, Rocket Love by Black Coffey from the album Conception. I followed that with the Grand Puba produced Love, Need & Want by Chante Savage. You’ll find some older faves like Rene & Angela’s My First Love, and the incomparable Johnny Guitar Watson putting his mack down on Lovin You. The Force MD’s, Entouch, Taana Gardner, and The Ohio Players’ Pride & Vanity makes this SlowDown Mix an instant classic. Where else will you find all these songs on one mix? HERE, that’s where. I hope you enjoy the flashback.

Peace & Blessings

GrantLOVE Presents: Not 4 Commercial Consumption

13 03 2008

not-4-comercial-consumption.jpg

“Never badder than bad ’cause the brother is madder than mad
At the fact that’s corrupt as a senator
Soul on a roll, but you treat it like soap on a rope
‘Cause the beats in the lines are so dope
Listen for lessons I’m saying inside music that the critics are
blasting me for
They’ll never care for the brothers and sisters now across the
country has us up for the war
We got to demonstrate, come on now, they’re gonna have to wait
Till we get it right
Radio Stations I question their blackness
They call themselves black, but we’ll see if they play this”

Public Enemy – “Bring Tha Noize”

I was listening to the radio the other day waiting to hear something fresh and new since I knew there had been several recent releases from artists that I like. That experience lasted about 10 minutes, after I heard three songs in a row that were horrible. I knew there was a reason why I stopped listening to commercial radio in the first place. If this is the so-called “Home” of Hip-Hop & R&B, I’d rather be evicted!

I understand that the program directors have to play certain songs to satisfy their core audience, but isn’t radio for everyone? I even tried listening to the Adult-Contemporary station here in Orlando and I heard song after song that has been played over and over again, with very few new songs added to their play-list.

I guess I’ll be using my Zune everywhere I go from now on. So to all my music bloggers out there, email me your feeds, so I never have to listen to Commercial Radio again.

Peace & Blessings in Abundance!!
